I think we've mentioned in the past how all the girls (except Estelle) were part of a chat hosted by Lifetime Television (via Yahoo! Chat Rooms), back in 2000/2001. I attended both Bea and Rue's chat sessions which was really exciting. Anyway, I've just stumbled across the chat transcript from Bea's Chat and found the question I asked her...

Richmondstreet6151: Has the popularity of The Golden Girl, across the world, astounded you? I live in the UK and dedicated a Web site to the show -- and since then I've realized just how many people adore the show!

Bea: It's just incredible, truly. I'm here now in Chicago doing my own show, and I think Golden Girl is shown three hours day here, and everybody loves it.

I almost passed out when I saw her answer MY question, LOL!

Hehe, that is so cool, Sam! It's no secret that Bea was your favourite so that must have been a dream come true. It must have been difficult to pick just one question to ask her because I have participated in live chats before and it can be a little intimidating because the star was seeing just how odd I am.

I have read all the transcripts before but it was nice seeing them again.

Oh, it was a LOT of fun! I remember the chats being held at around 11pm UK time. I used to sit here nervously, looking at the clock before getting ready to head in...my stomach churning and just hoping my question would be answered. I was on cloud 9 for some considerable time after I loved the way that she said "Well hello everybody, are you all there?" when she entered the chat

As for Rue's chat - that was quite fun in it's own way. She didn't turn up for the first scheduled chat as I *believe* she was held up in traffic, so it had to be rescheduled for the following week. Of course, there were quite a lot of youngsters in the chatroom who had their own theories on why she was late, such as "She's probably having sex. And old people have sex slower!" Of course, I had also changed my Yahoo! username for this chat, which was thegoldengirlsuk, so I was being bombarded with messages from people saying "Hey, why do you think the golden girls sucks?" (thegoldengirlsuk - ), so I spent most of that time explaining that it's UK, thegoldengirlsUK, dummy!

I don't know when Betty's chat was. I can only assume that it was before I created @TGG so I didn't really keep up with GG news. A shame as I'd have quite liked to attend that one.

It must have been great. She would say something as indirectly funny as that but I think the more amusing thing is picturing Bea typing away online. A lot of stars (even young ones) have their assistants type their answers or something and it can be quite frustrating.

As Sophia would say, old people don't have the time to take sex slow!


I really wish those people would join this site and then we could destroy the little bit of brain power they have left. This site excluded, online people are shockingly dim-witted!


Betty's chat would probably have been the most salacious because... it's Betty! I read her chat on the Lifetime site about a year and a half ago and if memory serves, she was asked what she thought could happen in a reunion and she replied with something like, "Well, Estelle would probably be like CP30 and have her head on a robot's body gliding around the house serving us dinner." That I would like to see!

It was crazy. The site domain was thegoldengirlsuk.com but because so many people either thought it was a GG hate site or worse still a PORN site (you know, suck) then I had to register the-goldengirls.com to put that theory to rest People either need to read things properly or get back to the classroom and learn to spell the word SUCK.


OH MY GOD That would be HILARIOUS! I hope some of the clever people out there who put together those creative GG YouTube videos would see this and give that a go! That's a must see

What is it with so many people thinking thegoldengirls.com is a porn site? Surely a sitcom about four elderly women in a house came before porn sites.


That would be great! If the day ever comes where this site is going to a place in the sky, it would be an amazing way to go out if someone could create that kind of sketch. There is a person I talk to occasionally on MSN and she writes mock scripts for GG and some have been very funny. I'll try and persuade her to write a story called: 15 years later - The Galactical Girls.

Rue mentioned in her chat log a "very handsome young man" typed her responses. She conducted the chat via phone, because Katie had ask her about that, and I presumed Bea had done the same thing.
