Although I never watched GG during it's original run,I know that the last two seasons did what many sitcoms do now, which is have a final scene playing during the closing credits. But these are not shown on the DvD...I thought they were uncut episodes? I know for a fact that the episode with Rose's father has a scene where she is talking to a man in a body cast during the closing credits (I saw it on Youtube..although it was in German).
So anyway...where is it??..why are there just regular ending credits??..whats going on???

I attended the original taping of "Once in St. Olaf" in August of 1990 in Los Angeles. No such scene was taped. I am almost positive that the closing credits scenes only aired during season 7. Is Rose talking to the man in a body cast about a dog named Rusty? This was an episode during season 7 where Rose still volunteered at the hospital and brought a dog along with her to cheer up patients (dunno the name, maybe someone else can help...) She starts to tell a St Olaf story several times during the episode. "Oh Rose, not the Rusty story again..." "Rose, Grace isn't feeling well, couldn't we skip the Rusty story today..." etc.
Hope this helps.

You're absolutely correct, Ian. Only a handful of episodes in Season 7 used end credit sketches. Season 6 on DVD is un-edited.
Out of interest, how many episodes did actually have the end sketch?

I don't know off hand exactly how many episodes had the end credit sketches. It wasn't the whole season, that's for sure. The season started and ended with episodes that had the closing theme music, so I guess it was just a few episodes in the middle of the season. I guess we'll find out for sure when we get our DVDs!

I can remember four (don't know episode names)
Sophia posing for boudoir photographer that Rose had hired for Miles' BD present
Sophia and Rose at kitchen table writing Sophia's will
Blanche dancing with Guido Spirelli in Sicily after she went to find Sophia
Rose telling the bodycast man the Rusty story
can anyone who has DVD 7 confirm/deny?
I have the dvd, and the only ones so far that have the end sketch are:
The Monkey Show
Ro$e Love$ Mile$ (this is the one Ian mentions about Blanche dancinmg in Sicily)
Room 7
I'm only up to here so far, so out of the first 11 episodes these are the only 3.

I also have a question about a scene that shows on the opening credits but I havent seen it on an episode.
Forgive me if this has been answered again.

The clip is from 'Break-In' from Season 1. It was cut by the looks of it and hasn't been seen since the show's original airing I beleive....so as the years go by its becoming one of the show's mysteries

I'm beginning to think that is was never even in the original NBC airing. Quite often with TV shows, too much is taped for the time limit they have. That scene may have been cut to save time for the original airing. However, when they were making the credits, they decided to use it. I've looked at the timings of the Season 1 episodes and they all run to about 25 minutes, therefore leading me to think they are completely unedited.

I've just watched a few more and I can tell you for definite that these epsiodes have end sketches:
From Here To The Pharmacy
The Popes Ring
Old Boyfriends
Like Rob said, it's mostly the middle episodes.

Or, when I attended the taping, they film the show twice - once at 5p and again at 8p. If a joke did not work in the first show, they would rewrite it for the second. This could be a first show scene which as Rob stated, never made it to air. Everyone always asks about this scene. There are others missing in the opener. Look at the scene when Dorothy/Bea bites her hand - it's from the "Break In" as well, but in the actual episode, she goes to bite her finger slowly, as opposed to in the openers, when she bites her finger fast.

I've always wondered about that one. Thanks for clearing that up, Ian.

I thought they'd just given a little speed to the clip. But maybe it's how she did it the first time, then they thought it might've been better if she'd do it slower?
There's also extra scenes at the end of...
Goodbye Mr Gordon - one of the lesbians on Wake Up Miami, coming to ask Dorothy out
The Commitments - Don coming to ask Rose out, saying he's playing 'Paul' this week

Ebbtide VI: The Wrath of Stan also has an extra scene during the credits - Sophia and Dorothy at the kitchen table.

I found the end credit scene on The Monkey Show a little strange. As I mentioned in another thread, this is the first time I've seen it as LivingTV replace it with the theme music. For some reason, I don't get it. It's a weather report on the hurricane but there's nothing funny in it and it just seems a bit pointless. Can anyone shed any light on this one?

Rob, NBC did a couple of block Saturday nights from 8p to 10p with theme nights during sweeps (November, February) with a 1 hour GG, followed by Empty Nest then Nurses. What they would do is have character crossovers and have the whole night with a single storyline. The first such night was the Full Moon episode (remember, Carol from EN comes over to Blanche's party). The second was the hurricane night. The weather report was to indicate that, even though the hurricane was done on GG, there was another one coming for the following EN episode. (Did I mention I didn't have much of a personal life on Saturday nights at the start of the 1990's?? LOL)

They did the same with the Moonlight madness party episode too, Rob. On the DVD, there is a full moon weather report during the end credits, which I don't think has ever been shown in the UK?

Thanks for the help, Ian and Darran. I get it now - it makes sense. Actually, it was quite a good way of keeping viewers tuned to NBC to continue following the themed night. I'll go and have a look for the other hurricane shows from EN and Nurses.
Thanks again

Actually, a lot more episodes than I originally thought have end credit scenes. It's more a case of the majority having them and a handful not, rather than the other way round.

I have seen most of the end sketches on Livingtv but as I haven't gotten to them yet on DVD, I want to ask; which do you all prefer? Ending with the instrumental theme music, or with the sketches?
Just out of curiousity.

I prefer the theme music. It doesn't feel 'right' when an episode doesn't close with the music.

I prefer the theme music too. I think it's because we're used to it. With Friends, it was always weird for me when an episode (normally a season finale) would end with the theme music because there was normally an end sketch.

I used to find that strange, too.
I agree with you both. The closing theme is what I associate with the end of an episode and I think that is partly the reason why so many were surprised to find that most of Season 7 had end sketches to begin with. Perhaps if the show had continued, they would have introduced a teaser before the credits as they do with most sitcoms and dramas.

I really like the end sketches! Either way is fine, but I like it when we have a little extra. The Nanny sometimes has sketch at the end, and it's a real treat. Same thing for Grace Under Fire. I say "Yes!" to the end skecthes!

I quite like the little extra scenes at the end of the show. Since having S7 on DVD, I often get ready to go back to the main menu once we reach the end of the actual episode, but then I remember there's an extra scene to watch. Usually I skip the end credits anyway, so it's quite nice to see something other than the stills/end theme. Same goes for Home Improvement. Most episodes have bloopers *or* occasionally an extra scene at the end. It always tickles me to see this. On the episodes where it ends with the theme tune I simply skip straight back to the main menu.

I always expect to see bloopers at the end of HI. Like the closing theme with The Golden Girls, it is what I associate the end of an episode with.

Ooh I never skip the credits at all. It doesn't feel right somehow. I like to watch the whole thing. I always, without fail, watch both the opening and closing credits.
