Yeah, I had noticed this and it was something that made me a bit against the later seasons but I have to agree with Rob that they had gotten a bit predictable and it was good to see more of the living room instead of the opening/closing setting that it provided for a lot of episodes.
I think someone said this before but there weren't as many St. Olaf/Sicily/Blanche stories in Season 6 and 7. It became that experiences were worked into a conversation in passing comment instead of a straight out story. Not sure which is better, though.
So far, I haven't seen many Sicily or Blanche stories in Season 6 but there have been a few St. Olaf stories. Although, some of them have been mentions rather than full stories. One particularly funny moment was when in one episode from Season 6 (can't remember which), Rose ends up telling three St. Olaf stories simultaneously!
To expand on my comments about the cheesecake scenes. The reason I say they were predictable is that whenever there was a problem (which is most episodes) in the early seasons, you could bet that 90% of Act Twos begun with the girls at least sitting up at night, usually eating cheesecake. As I said, this was great to begin with but it became predictable after a while. It was nice later on to have different styles of dealing with problems - it added a bit more variety to the show. As much as I respect Terry Hughes' work on Seasons 1-5, I think the mixture of directors in Season 6 and 7 (Matthew Diamond, Robert Berlinger, Zane Buzby, Lex Passaris, Peter D. Beyt, Judi Pioli) was a blessing to the show as it made things fresh again. There were some really interesting camera shots in Seasons 6 and 7 which Terry Hughes never used.
