With Christmas coming and all we're going to do a mini-marathon of series with christmas episodes. Dunno if any of you are doing this every year, but we do!
Can someone point out the Christmas episodes+seasons that contained them so we can be organised better? I am sure The Golden Girls had some.. I remember seeing one with Stanley as a Santa Clause eating at a shelter with the Girls helping out!
Maybe they should release a DVD set with only the Christmas episodes like they did with Roseanne and the Halooween episodes recently!

There was in season 2 "
'Twas the nightmare before Christmas", and the one with Stan eating at the shelter, it's from season 5 and it's called "
Have yourself a very little Christmas". In term of Xmas eps, I think that'd be all.

"The Golden Palace" had a Christmas episode: "It's Beginning to Look (A Lot Less) Like Christmas."

Yeah it is a shame that there were only two Christmas episodes but they were both very good.

1 thing that I found funny in the Xmas episode in Season 5, is when Blanche sees Stan dressed up as a Santa Claus, I'm surprised she never got turned on!

LOL!

You caught me off guard with that joke!
The Season 5 Christmas episode is enjoyable but I much prefer the Season 2 episode because there were so many hysterical moments with Dorothy e.g.
Dorothy: Blanche, I could get herpes listening to this story!
Dorothy
(holding Rose's present): This will come in handy if I'm ever lost in the woods with a stack of pancakes.
Dorothy
(flicking through the Boudoir calendar): Whoa!

I would have liked to have seen more Christmas episodes of GG. A couple of years ago we discussed some ideas for
more Christmas episodes.

I watched the season 5 Christmas episode the other day and I have to say I didn't enjoy it much. I didn't like the storyline much at all. The beginning was excellent - where they all hope that they won't get a Christmas present from Rose

but after that things just go downhill. I used to really like this episode but it wasn't what I remembered it to be. It's a shame because there were only 2 Chistmas episodes and I personally feel the only good one was the first one.

Before Season 6 was released, I did marathons of each season - one per weekend leading up to S6. I purposely skipped the xmas episodes from S2 and S5 to wait until this time of year. I just watched both - I like both for this time of year - but neither are strong episodes. Oh don't get me wrong, they have their moments. But both episodes get lost somewhere in the middle with these storylines that seem to exist only to fill the episode. The hostage taking in Rose's office, and Stan and the church, neither very funny to me. I like the gift giving part in both shows, and the discussion of shopping. I think the writers could have done more with that - and the homeless dinner - so typically preachy of S5! But they were good for a seasonal laugh, and I will prolly watch them again before xmas. (Too bad they never did a New Year's Eve episode...)

I really like "'Twas the Nightmare Before Christmas."
Dorothy:Blanche, I could get herpes listening to this story!!
"Have Yourself a Very Little Christmas" is OK, not necessarily one of my faves, but not bad. I always like the Stan/Dorothy eps.
I usually try to watch Christmas eps. of all my shows on Christmas Eve, and these two eps. will def. be part of that. Now that I've got more seasons of more shows, I'm thinking I may need to start at noon to fit them all in, hehe!

Neither Christmas episode is a favourite of mine but they have a few moments that I like. One that always sticks out in the Season 2 episode was:
Guy: Can you cook?
Sophia: Are you black?

The Season 5 episode always reminds me of "Brother, Can You...?" because of the haunting music that plays over the montage of the homeless people. Comedy-wise, nothing special for me.

I like 'Twas The Nightmare Before Christmas. The Men of Blanche's Boudoir calendar being one of my favourite bits for Dorothy's infamous "Whoooaaahhhh" and Sophia's "I'm surprised you were able to walk in October!"

I love Dorothy's face when the guy who likes playing with matches is starting at her

The cringeworthy bit from this scene is where the compulsive liar says that he wrote Silent Night and sings a little of it and Santa thinks that he really did write it and shakes his hand

But, it does get me feeling a little festive.
Have Yourself a Very Little Christmas is quite different. Like already mentioned by others, it starts out with some potential but once we move away from the house then it promptly loses it's attraction and just becomes preachy. A reason why Season 5 is way down on my favourites list.
I think they could have done a lot more Christmas episodes and made them funny. If only we'd written to the writing team back in the 80's we could have suggested they get Rose to decorate the outside of the house and put that inflatable cow to some good use

I personally feel all sitcoms should do a Christmas episode for every season they do as I feel a lot of the Everybody Loves Raymond and Home Improvement Christmas episodes are my favourite episodes.

Only 2 Christmas episodes? Oh that's a shame, a real shame. I love Christmas and I looooooove Christmas episodes from shows that I love. I sure wish there were more

That's one of the poorer GG episodes, in my opinion. And the link to New Year's Eve is a bit tenuous...it's only one scene out of a whole episode. The episode is flashbacks about dates the girls have had, not about New Year's Eve.

I watched the Season 2 Christmas episode last night and it seems to get funnier everytime I watch it.

My favourite part is when Blanche is telling the story of what the girls think is the first time she meets George. After Rose, Dorothy, and even the waiter interrupt her, Dorothy finally yells;
"For God's sake Blanche, I could get herpes listening to this story!"

This may have been asked before, but whatever, we'll live if it has. (I'm in a really cheeky mood today

) There was a song playing at the end as the snow fell. Does anybody know what it was?

I believe it's Surfing U.S.A., sang by The Beachboys. I can't verify, because my sis-in-law still has my season 2, but I know that it's a Beachboys song.

Thanks.
Btw, I must say that I much preferred Seasons 5's Christmas episode to Season 2's. It showed a softer side of The girls, and it was quite moving and sad. It occurrs so much in daily life, so it was good to see it be done in this episode.
I also found it interesting where they did kind of an "open k-k's", where one girl bought for only one other girl, but they knew who was buying for them.
Blanche bought for Dorothy.
Rose bought for Blanche.
Dorothy bought for Sophia.
Sophia bought for Rose.
Also, it beats me why they only did 2 Christmas episodes out of 7 seasons.
