I just got this e-mail...
QUOTE
Hi Sam,
I've just got news from Buena Vista, that The Golden Girls Deluxe Edition(Season 1,2 and 3) is coming out on the 13 Sept 06 in Australia.
Hopefully Season 4 will be out soon!
Michael
That's great news

I wonder if we can expect this release in Europe. I recall BV doing something like this for Scrubs S1, S2 and S3.

This definitely looks promising. I think it could mean that BV are preparing for a Season 4 release and want to drum up some promotion this time or they are not releasing Season 4 but are doing this anyway. I think the first scenario would make more sense but I'm really too giddy to think it out right now.

Ooh that is exciting - maybe this is a tester or something?

Jun 20 2006, 02:50 PM
That's great news. I wonder if there'll be any good extras this time around. I mean, it wouldn't be labeled Deluxe Edition for nothing, right?
Sam
Jun 20 2006, 02:52 PM
Yeah, I wonder if it could be a tester. I am pretty sure that Buena Vista UK told Darran that they have no plans to release Season 4 "at this time", so perhaps a deluxe edition with a reasonable pricetag might be their way of testing the water and if that sells well they may reconsider. Would people here who already have S1, S2 and S3 on Region 2/Region 4 go for the deluxe boxset, though? I think if they included some extras, as Psycon said, then it may be more tempting.

Jun 20 2006, 03:08 PM
If the extras are good then I might sell my DVD's since they are in such good condition and buy the deluxe set as it will probably work out cheaper than buying Seasons 1-3 individually.
When I bought 'Tru Calling' on DVD it was the entire series in one set with good extras. Even though only two seasons were made there were great extras and I would bet something additional would be on this.

Ok, I apologise, I totally misread the first post. I thought they were releasing the first 3 seasons individually, but as deluxe edition. That's what happens when you try to speed read.
Given that it's the 3 seasons packaged together, I wouldn't get my hopes up as far as extras are concerned.

Jun 20 2006, 04:51 PM
hmm, if there's something special about this Deluxe set then I'll raise my hand and say I will probably buy it....but I think a lot of people won't bother forking out again for 3 seasons they already own, when all they want are Seasons 4 onwards to get released. The hardcore fans will, but the general public won't and if BV are after sales figures with this set I think they'll be disappointed. I'm looking forward though to seeing more about this boxset when more about it is released
roz
Jun 20 2006, 05:12 PM
Maybe it will just be new packaging with new artwork. The only reason I'm thinking this is because they did this with Friends in the UK.
Example:
Friends old editionFriends new edition

Jun 20 2006, 05:19 PM
I'm curious about this Deluxe Edition boxset and I'm going to echo what's already been said; if this is a test and sales ploy by BV I doubt it'll get the reaction they're expecting as most fans have the seasons already. If the elusive extras show up it may work but other than that I think it will be a waste of time and money.
I don't know who's in Marketing at BV but they sure as hell need firing

Hi guys, my name is Michael and i'm new to this forum!
I just spoke to BV Australia and apparently S4 was meant to come out here on the 14 of June! But the release was delayed for an unknown reason
The Golden Girls Deluxe Edition is just a combination of all three seasons in one pack. The Home Improvement Deluxe Edition is also being released at the same time.
As you guys have said, i'm sure they are justing testing the waters to see if demand is still strong, so they can release S4....
Sam
Jun 21 2006, 12:35 AM
It's up for pre-order at
EZYDVD. It's a 12 disc set and converts to around £43 GBP. Considering each boxset of GG *was* £25 when originally released, this is a good saving

Thanks for letting us know about this, Michael

Me too.

I'm torn because I would rather buy HI than TGG DVD's that I already have but the more that are sold the better the chance of PAL releases starting up again. I'm surprised it is as cheap as it is but I thought that it would probably be at a reduced price.

The good thing about the Region 4 DVD's is they come in a regular plastic DVD case - so they're much thinner if you have limited space

Well, that's how they were presented when sold seperately, I'm not sure if the cases may change for the Deluxe Set.
If The Golden Girls and Home Improvement did get a Season 4 release in Australia before R2, I'm not sure that I would buy from there to be honest. The packaging is so different to the R1/R2 versions, so it would really look out of place amongst those already in my collection. Although the packaging differs only slightly between R1 and R2, R4 is just a regular case. Although, if the price is right......

I agree. The region 1 packaging is better than the region 2 one in my opinion for both Golden Girls and Home Improvement but the region 4 packaging is definitely a problem.

Are the Region 2 and Region 1 DVD cases the same for The Golden Girls?
I personally prefer the Region 4 (Australia) DVD case over the Region 1 case. I have noticed that the Region 1 Case gets damaged more easily.

Region 2 is a bit thicker and a little shorter than the region 1 case.

Well.. don't forget that Region 1 season sets contain 3 DVDs and Region 2 are 4 DVDs!

If I didn't have all the seasons released so far I would consider buying the "Deluxe Set" which is basically all the 3 first seasons put together by an outside carton holding them together.. exactly what they did with CHARMED..

They released Seasons 1-4 of Charmed in one set on Region 2 but I still didn't buy it because they will most likely release all 8 seasons in one set eventually.

I don't know what to think about the deluxe set, can it be that they are just trying to throw the rest of the dvd's out? I mean they are selling the single dvd already and to just put 3 together as a set doesn't make too much sense well the price is better but that's it. If they are testing the water like this it doesn't make any sense to me but hey I don't understand this industry anyway lol
I for myself wouldn't by it, I have the dvd's and why pay again so much money?

Seasons set 1-3 in R1 too !
It looks like this Deluxe Set has been taken off the release list. It no longer appears on the
Buena Vista Australia upcoming releases and
ezydvd.com say it's now "Not Orderable". But hey, this is Buena Vista outside of the US - we shouldn't be too surprised by this sudden change of direction....should we?

Oh, and Home Improvement's Deluxe Edition has also been removed whilst Scrubs Deluxe Edition gets the go-ahead on 13th September!
Sam
Oh for God sake when will they learn
I was really looking forward to the HI release so am actually pi**ed off about this. At least I still have the option of region 1 or 2.
It seems best way to avoid disappointment where GG and HI are concerned is to buy them on R1 from the US. Because of the bad treatment they've had by BVUK I don't think I'd trust them again even if they
did consider brining out Season 4. It would only be a matter of time before they pulled the rug from under us again. At least we can be confident that they will *all* be released in the USA

Sam
Yeah I agree Sam but I have to say that if GG season 4 was to be released in the UK I would sell my R1 copy and buy it on R2 just because then I can play it on any of my dvd players.

The crazy people at Buena Vista Australia have put back The Golden Girls Deluxe Edition on their release schedule! It's due for release on the 27 Sept 2006 in Australia.
You're kidding? This is hilarious, what are they up to?

I had forgotten all about this!

I see it's not yet orderable on ezydvd.com but hopefully that will change. I wonder what has inspired the change of decision...
My first thought was a late special feature had been included but it would have been postponed and not seemingly cancelled in the first place.

Echoing what's been said, Home Improvement looks a bit better than The Golden Girls however neither are up to the standards I would have expected. I am seriously tempted to buy the deluxe HI package because I don't have the first 3 seasons on DVD and it would be cheaper to buy it as one.

Does anybody know if the Golden Girls is going to be released in Australia? Because we are in the same situation in England where we've had the first three seasons released. Season Three was released in January and there haven't been any releases since and I would really like to be able to see the rest of the series...

I doubt it but keep an eye out on Bunena Vista's website. To be honest I think if they don't come out in the UK they won't be coming out in Australia as they were released at the same time.
Now that it is out, does anyone have it? Anything special or different about it...
