Have you tried google? I've find 1 or 2 pictures last week. And for the QueenBea website, email the owner, I'm sure he/she'll be pleased to lend you the photo. I think the person just don't want her work to be copied.

Thanks for the photos, I've seen the movie Mame but had never seen pictures of Bea on Broadway as Vera Charles.
Rue McClanahan
is there any mames dvds about, i need to see it!!!!!!
GoldenGirlsFanatic
Mame is not available on dvd, and there are currently no plans of it being released. Just keep checking amazon.com every once in a while. Hopefully someday it will coe out., It was released on vhs though in 1996, and it is now out of print. But it can be found on E-Bay and the Amazon Marketplace usually.

I found another one today! oh doesn't Bea look stunning?

Bye! dorothy.gif ~sofia
GabZ1985
She's gorgeous, as usual! But she looked better in the play than in the movie.. In that picture though she looks like Stockard Channing in Grease!
Isnt_She_Divine
oh my goodness you are right! and, you have to remember that the play was done in i think 1966, and the movie was around 1978 so she is going to look a bit different. but i think bea has always looked very youthful even in her older years. dorothy.gif ~sofia
GabZ1985
No I meant she looked better because of the costumes. I saw some pictures of the costumes in the play, and I saw a bit of the movie on YouTube, but the costumes in the movie are horrible at some points. So that why I think she looked better in the play. Not because of her age, but because of what dressed her.
Isnt_She_Divine
oh, ok i understand. you are right, some of the costumes inthe movie were just a bit over the top. there was a video of ther PLAY on Youtube!?! oh i am going to have to look, i have always wanted to see it! dorothy.gif ~sofia
GabZ1985
It's not a video of the play, but an extract of the movie: clicky!

the few images of bea as vera are taken as snapshot from my intimate portrait dvd, as is my current avator. XXRMXX

Isnt_She_Divine
i found another one of her on Broadway with Angela Lansbury...sorry about the water mark, i found it on Getty Images...

Oh! i found another one! they are just coming out of the wood work now! this is her on broadway with angie again.

i was reading yesterday, about the movie version, which you know was done around the time Bea was doing maude, and did you guys know that Bea was forced to lose 40 pounds or she couldn't be in the movie. the producers wouldnt let her have the role unless she lost all that weight. and what gets me is, if she didnt, who else would they have play that part? i mean she is perfect for that role. (she would have been a good Mame too though) i know the movie was a "bomb" (which i dont get, i love it!) but if Bea wasnt in it, it would have been even worse. thats just what i think. but bea looked great either way, with or without the 40 lbs.
GabZ1985
Yeah but wasn't she forced by her then husband to do the movie, even though she didn't really want to do it?
Isnt_She_Divine
From what i heard Gene Saks ( her Then husband), wanted her to do the part, i dont know about forced, but she didnt really want to do the movie anyway. but she did say she wanted to play mame if she did, which he didnt allow, because Lucille Ball was cast for it. and the reason she didnt want to do it was that she felt lucy was Mis-Casted as Mame. Gene also had nothing to do with her having to lose the weight. i read in several articles that the PRODUCERS told her they would not allow her to be in the movie at all, even if Gene was the directer or not, if she didnt lose 40 lbs. Gene had no say, he was only the director, and although he still had athority over the movie, really the producers called the shots. i dont know, there are some interviews, and magazine articles and such online that talk about it all, and she described it a little bit in the intimate portrait. dorothy.gif ~Sofia

I didn't want to start a new topic for this but here's a picture of Bea and Estelle Getty in 1995 at Opening Night of "Bermuda Avenue Triangle".

I don't recall this being posted before so forgive me if it has. Here's a link to the picture:

I didn't want to start a new topic just for one picture, but while looking for lyrics of The Threepenny Opera, I've found this picture of Bea in character! There you go:

Thanks for that Gab. smile.gif I would have loved to have seen Bea in a stage production.
