Seeing the official season 5 thread which I started has lost it's way in the past few days I thought I would set this up for SEASON SIX DVD SET! Now I don't know what it is but I have a date in my head of 22nd or 24th August?? I don't know why? And I think it will be purple.

Good thinking Miami! I think the release of two seasons so close together has prompted excitment over Seasons 6 and 7 already! So might be a good idea to use this thread to vent all our nerves, frustration and excitment over Season 6 and we can speculate till the cows come home.

I'd be ready for an August release, if that meant we could get Season 7 out at Christmas-time. Would be nice to close the year out with the last of the series. Of course, if the distributors were wise, they would do Season 7 alone or in a combo set with Golden Palace. I'd pay $60 to have GP and S7 all together.

If they were gonna release Season 7 by the end of the year then they might bring out the complete series boxset at the same time to cash in on the very last release of the show. It's been done many times before so why not with TGG?

A little off topic but yes, I'd like to see a Complete Series boxset for the Golden Girls. My girlfriend was collecting all Friends series on individual DVD then they brought out the complete boxset which she had to have

It's a nice way to present the show and looks nice.

I'm hoping they'll release a full Series boxset too at the end. I know I'd definitely buy it, despite having spent a small fortune on impatiently ordering Region 1 disks and then buying the Region 2's when they were released...
Maybe they could release it as a special Sophia's Bamboo purse with all the disks inside, or a store-bought Cheesecake box perhaps. Any other ideas, since we're wandering off topic anyway
But let's try to keep it to Season 6 also.

Those are really creative ideas, but I doubt we see that much effort from Buena Vista. LOL.

I agree with Miami about the chance of Season 6 being released in August, which would lead to Season 7 being released in Novemeber (exactly 2 years since Season 1 was released on DVD) and perfect timing for Christmas.

It depends...if the DVD's are selling like hotcakes, then Buena Vista might do that. Let's keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best!!

Is there a site which lists the number of DVD sales for new releases? It's just that we always hear Harry Potter or Desperate Housewives sold so many copies in its first week of release and if we could find out how many copies The Golden Girls has sold from the last 4 releases, then we might be able to find out the likelihood of more frequent releases.

Lime green sounds great! Red could be too but the only things I remember being red on the show are one of Blanche's or Sophia's dresses but if I'm not wrong Darran posted a red designed GG boxset he uses for his home made DVDs and it was simply FANTASTIC!!

I think that if we're going to see a GP release on DVD it would have to come at the tail end of TGG. Otherwise, the name recognition wouldn't be there.
GabZ1985

I think between the lime green and the red they'd pick the red since there's already a green cover.. I think it'll be like purple or a tan shade. I wonder what design they're going to put for the pictures...

I agree. In fact, I'd be very surprised if The Golden Palace is released at all. It's nowhere near as popular as The Golden Girls and if it was bundled with Season 7 it would drive the price up, meaning some GG collectors might not bother to buy it.

Since Season 5 is a cast picture in a big star do you think Season 6 should be another big cast pic or should the designs return to the format of Seasons 1-4 where there are single pictures of the girls in certain shapes? I would have preferred to have individual pictures for Seasons 1-6 and then a cast picture for Season 7.

According to TVShowsOnDVD.com, the complete fourth season of "Scrubs" is set to be released in October, however this is not confirmed. However, if this is true, we can probably look forward to Season 6 of TGG on DVD in October as well because a new season of "Scrubs" has been released the same day as TGG for the past two DVD release.

I thought it'd be earlier than that to be honest but October is still good. I can't wait for the fourth season of Scrubs either!

season release, presumably in late November like
Seasons 1 and 3. No idea about bonus features yet,

Indeed, I would be very surprised if they release The Golden Palace at all. It only ran for one season and was nowhere near as good as The Golden Girls. If they haven't even begun releasing Empty Nest, I think we might be in for a long wait for GP.

I agree Rob, I have to admit I am sceptical about seeing GP getting released- in saying that, a lot of One season flops have made it to DVD, My Big Fat Greek Life, Father of the Pride, The Ellen Show, to name a few - I guess it depends who in the studios feels the show deserves to be released. I suspect Buena Vista may not be as kind to the Golden Palace, going by their past behaviour.

I'm not going to lie and say I would be devestated if The Golden Palace was never released but I'm still hopeful.
I agree Darran that there should be an announcement from Buena Vista soon because I doubt The Golden Girls are selling badly if they've fired out 5 seasons in a year and a half. They will want to get it out quickly so the fans will also stop hassling them.

The popularity of GP doesn't matter, is GG - so they'll release it, because anybody who bought the GG DVD's will want it.

I think GP's popularity will play an important part - I doubt Buena Vista would go to the trouble of releasing a DVD (don't forget, the episodes have to be re-mastered, menus/packaging has to be designed, the DVDs have to be actually made etc.) if they didn't think it was going to sell well. I don't know about other people but at this moment in time, I wouldn't buy The Golden Palace on DVD - I simply don't enjoy it as much as GG and I don't think it is worth £20+.
SimpleRules
Jun 7 2006, 11:23 AM
But they can get a hook with GG fans, I think it would give it atleast a chance - plus 1 season isn't a big commitment.
I think the price would definitely have to be right before I considered buying The Golden Palace - and only then to have the *complete* collection. I have them on DVD and tape already but haven't watched in about 2 years - that's how much I didn't really care for the show, hehe. But yeah, if it was £20+ then I can't see myself paying that for a show that I probably would never take off my shelf. I wouldn't be at all disappointed if they never released GP to DVD.

Tribute.
It happens, when an actress passes away they move to sell the DVD because they're will be higher demand for it.
Surely, if one of the GP girls was to pass you'd want the show to relive the memories, no?
I don't think thats what the girls are famous for though, you know what I mean? If you hear Bea Arthur's name or Estelle Getty's name you don't think oh yeah they were in the Golden Palace you think they were in the Golden Girls. All the girls have been in more popular things than the Goledn Palace.
SimpleRules
Jun 7 2006, 08:38 PM
But when you hear Golden Palace you think of Golden Girls.
Its a franchise, GP is part of the GG franchise - and it will be treated like GG, not as a 1 season show that didn't get good ratings.
QUOTE(SimpleRules @ Jun 7 2006, 07:39 PM)

I have fonder memories of the ladies in The Golden Girls, so for me personally I probably wouldn't turn to GP to relive any of the memories as they're not particularly good ones

Buena Vista might release it. Even though there are many Golden Girls fans who despise The Golden Palace, there are still many others out there who love the show. I happen to enjoy it. I guess that fact that I have watched my tapes 7 or 8 times might indicate that. Keep your fingers crossed.

I still go back to my thoughts about GP... it should be added as a bonus to Season Seven. Plain and simple. They will hook people into paying more money for the combo set, and GP will be released on DVD as part of TGG series.
GabZ1985
Jun 11 2006, 02:05 PM
I agree with you, Freddy Peterson. If they release GP after the season 7, some people might not even know what it is. I, for one, had never heard of the show before I started watching GG for good. At some points, a lot of fans probably know about it, but some don't. But would the whole season of GP fit in the last season? Unless they put the features on a different DVD or if they divide the GP season on the 3 DVDs..?
