I'm new to this site and I was just curious who your favourite golden girl is

I am sorry I can't pick one. To me all 4 are so important and make the Golden Girl great! I love Dorothy and Sophia but Rose and Blanche just have to be in the show also. I LOVE THEM ALL

Hard to say honestly I like them all but I'd have to say Rose is my least favorite. Blanche or Dorothy would be my favorite followed my Sophia.

Didn't we cover a topic like this before? If not then my favourite is Sophia for the obvious reasons.

Dorothy is my favorite. She has the greatest comebacks!

Yea I thought there was a topic about this, but probably Dorothy is my favorite...her face expressions say it all! But they're all fabulous.

Dorothy without a doubt. IMO, she was the most talented actress on the show. As someone else pointed out, her expressions were priceless. She could get more laughs with a simple expression than the other three could get with lines combined. I think had any of other of the three decided to leave instead of Bea, the show probably would have gone on at least a few more years. My favorites in order of most to least: Dorothy, Blanche, Rose, and Sophia.

Estelle was not a good actress, i thought her "picture it.." spiel got old after the second or third time, a lot of her jokes you could see the punchline coming a mile away, and she just irritates me. I think had her character stayed more like a clueless old lady like it was in the first episode, she would have been a lot funnier. I actually think Nancy Walker would have made a much better Sophia than Estelle, but she probably wasnt considered because she was too well known as a Jewish mother from Rhoda, although that would have been a nice twist to have Sophia and Dorothy be a Jewish mother and daughter since they were both Jewish in real life anyway.

Rue was perfectly cast as Blanche. I am glad Bea made a stink that Betty not be cast as Blanche. Rue pulled that role of perfectly. I don't think it would have been nearly as good had Betty ended up with the role of Blanche.

I rarely laugh at anything "Rose" does or says on the show. She was necessary to set up a lot of jokes for the other characters though, so I guess she was needed. Just never thought she was funny on the show.

If they had done that early on then the show may have lasted a while but it wouldn't have worked if they had left after Season 3 because by then the bond had formed and no matter who they hired the show was perfect the way it was.

Dorothy for sure.

These days a lot of the harsher more sarcastic characters in sit-coms don't have a softer side and seem one dimentional. Dorothy was a good, realistic mix.

Plus, she also had the best wardorbe.
I've looked everywhere, and I can't find a huge shirt-dress anywhere.
People just have no taste these days.

Opinion vs. Opinion. Respectfully, I beg to differ. I dont think the show would have gone on for a long time, it was winding down, but I think if Rose or Sophia left the show might have gone on a few years. Had Blanche left, maybe one more year. Sophia could have left and they could have brought Nancy Walker to stay as Aunt Angela. That would have perfectly filled the void. Rose could have left and not been replaced at all or Eva Gabor, of Green Acres' fame, would have done a good replacement for Rose. I cant think of an actress or a situation that could have replaced Dorothy's character. Her acting ability would be hard to replace, and her character situation being the butt of so many jokes was totally integral to the show's premise. Part of the reason i think GP only lasted one season.

Oooops, Nancy Walker died in 1992, thought it was later than that. That option wouldnt have been available!

I will totally have to agree with everything you've just said, aswell as your favourites in order. When I think of scenes in The Golden Girls that I really laugh out loud at most it always involves Dorothy. She's got absolutely everything - the dry wit, the expressions, fantastic comic timing.

Estelle was prefect for the part of Sophia! I could not in my wildtest dreams picture anyone else playing her or any other actress playing any other charticor on the show!

And the whole picture it thing was just part of Sophia's personaltiy just like Rose constinally told those silly St.Olaf stories almost all the time!

I hate to pick one, but if I have to, it would have to be Rose. Who comes in second, third etc is impossible for me to choose. I love them all.

Definitely Sophia, there's jsut something randomly hilarious about her. I love how she can just out of nowhere make comments in how stupid Rose is or about Blanche and her men as she's walking through the room or something.

GG was a cast show...you know like Friends. But I did like Dorothy the best, mostly for her priceless expressions and her sarcastic comments.

My fave is ROSE all the way. I adore, ADORE her St Olaf stories...and the fact she is always cheerful. I love her Yimmini stori...and the boy who cried wolf...and Bessie who pulled the plow...and her mother having the face lift and suing the plastic surgeon...all very funny stories...

I love them all so very much, but my heart has always belonged to Dorothy. There's just something about her strength of character and incredible wit and intelligence! And Bea Arthur is one of the greatest comedic actresses of all time!!!

I like all the girls, but my order is :
1. Rose.
2. Sophia.
3. Blanche.
4. Dorothy.

My faves have always been Blanche and Sophia. I kind of wish I had some of Blanche's attitude, hehe. (Or even her luck with men!) And Sophia's great b/c she'll just say whatever. I love people like that on TV, b/c they keep things interesting. But I can def. see why Dorothy is so popular here - her sarcasm is SO funny!

This is a tough one. I'm tied between Sophia and Dorothy. I think mine would go like this:

1. Sophia
= Dorothy
3. Blanche
4. Rose

It's like that episode where a famous sculptor wanted to make a statue of one of the girls. Then he took something from each and made the perfect one..
That's how I feel about them. You cannot say JUST one because all 4 make one hell of a team.

Sophia and Blanche are my joint favourites but there are times when Dorothy is the one I want to hear from. Rose gets on my nerves from time to time (as does Sophia, admittedly) so I can't say she is my favourite but I have to agree with demiscy and Betty White's analagy that the 4 of them are like a table and if you take away a leg, it doesn't balance. Golden Palace...

It changes all the time. At one point, Sophia was my favorite. Then it was Rose, then Dorothy and lately I've been liking Blanche the most. But it depends on the episode, on my mood and everything basically. I can't choose just one all-time ultimate favorite!

This is a very difficult decision..I love them all as a whole! But I'd have to say that my favorites are Rose and Sophia. I love the fact that Rose is always cheerful and happy, and I adore her St. Olaf stories. Sophia is hysterical and gets some of the best lines and gets away with everything. But honestly I love them all, and they work together to bring the funniest show ever.
