There is so much room for hilarious talk about Shady Pines! lol.gif Like for instance, at the wedding when Dorothy almost married Stan AGAIN! Myra came over and said her daughter was checking her into SP and...............

Sophia: Come with me, I'll give you the low dow on Shady Pines; like who does what for cigarretts.
mwcmfgg
I say Yes it was as bad as she said. In The Golden Palace episode I believe it is the one where Dorothy visits they actually show it and they are all surprised on how nice it was remodled and had new owners. That episode is hilarious. Rose and Blanche sneak in at different times in trench coats and sun glasses.

Blanch: I'm her for the massage.

Rose: I'm here for the circus.

I can't remember the whole speech:

Sophia: ...And the filet minion
Dorothy: Oh really, Ma? Shady Pines had filet minion (sp)?
Sophia: Ah, one, they'd throw it in the pit and make us fight over it.

I think that Shady Pines wasn't the best home, but it wasn't as bad as Sophia always said. Remember her way of story telling, how she's making things up. lmao.gif And it's funny to hear them lol.gif , but in my opinion, she's exaggerating.
Sam
I think maybe Sophia did exaggerate a bit about Shady Pines.

I loved the episode where Sophia wanted to rescue her friend, Lilian (I think it was) from another retirement home so she took Rose along with her and told her to go and find her. Rose kept returning with the wrong person and at one stage she wheeled an old black couple out lmao.gif that was hilarious!

I think Sophia exaggerated, but mwcmfgg said, there's an episode of Golden Palace where they go into the newly rebuilt/remodeled Shady Pines, and even Dorothy is totally FLOORED by how nice and different it is. They do make some comments eluding to the fact it was pretty bad (unfortunately, I can't think of them off the top of my head).

Exactly. Now it wasn't great, but it wasn't THAT bad. I think just before Sophia said that she said something like: "Now Shady Pines, there's good food..."
But I never knew if she set that up, or if she actually made the mistake. Probably the former.
Anyway, I think it was exaggerated. Her stories about it grew more so over the years...

Of course it was as bad as Sophia said... hehehe... So many great jokes with that. smile.gif

I LOVE your avetar Michael. It is the cutest thing! They look alike the sweet little gorgous angels! Looks like my Granny, too (LOL, no offence - she's a beaut).

TOTALLY agree Kerry. Who could phrase that better?

I would say yes it bad as Sophia said. sophia.gif

:frosty:

Dorothy said "Ma: Shady Pines"
roz
I'd say no because I think that was all part of the fun of Shady Pines. I think it was probably in the middle really - it wasn't the nicest place to be but Sophia exaggerated everything bad about it.

Yesterday it was in the paper that 8 nursing homes in Northern Ireland weren't up to standard so I wouldn't completely disagree with Sophia's comments. lmao.gif She may have been close to the truth at the start of the show but as the years went on, Shady Pines was used in jokes more and more so I think the writers got a bit carried away with it. By The Golden Palace, it sounded like something from Apocalypse Now. tongue.gif
